Over the next few weeks, Chef Barakat from Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro, will be sharing recipes for some of the most popular dishes from the weekly Arabic theme night at The Palm Restaurant. Barakat has had a passion for cooking since his teens when he spent school holidays working in a restaurant. He undertook professional training in his homeland of Syria and worked as a trainee chef before moving to Lebanon then Oman in 2004. After working as a chef de Partie at the Al Khodor Restaurant in Al Khuwair, Barakat became head chef at Bawabat Almaskan Restaurant in Ibri. He worked as Oriental Chef at the Golden Tulip Resort in Khasab and with the same chain in Muscat. At the Grand Hyatt (Muscat) Barakat undertook responsibility for the entire catering operation at the 5* hotel. Since 2011, Barakat has been Chef de Cuisine at The Palm, Hyatt Regency Dar Es Salaam where he has mentored Chefs Jacob and Veniranda to prepare authentic Arabic dishes.
