Let me declare that I am not a wine expert, rather an enthusiastic novice. I have, however, graduated from sweet vino into more complicated styles of wine. My love of wine has blossomed thanks to wine tastings and new discoveries made in my home city of Dar-es-Salaam. I have attended four Dar Wine Festivals and catch any wine tastings around Dar. Appreciating any bottle is a personal experience, so the only thing that matters to me is how good the wine tastes.
Where, however, do you start? Buying good wine or rather the wine you would enjoy drinking is part of a learning curve. You’re likely to learn as much from your buying mistakes, as from your triumphs. My advice is diversify your purchases and keep records of what you enjoy and what you don’t. Foodies (who frequently love wonderful wine in addition to fine food) often enjoy the fruits of wine-making and I look forward to sharing my wine journey with you. I will be rating the wines I try using a five star system. So join me on my wine voyage and together we can shop around for different styles of wine and progressively improve our selection skills while discovering some wonderful bottles in the process.
