Every Tuesday at The Palm Restaurant, you can experience an Arabic feast that is based on the simple but effective formula of creating authentic food made to the highest Hyatt standards. The astonishing choice of freshly made dishes reflects the varied traditions and influences of the region.  This is all achieved under the masterful direction of Chef Barakat whose team prepares dishes using the most popular recipes from several Arabic nations.

A great place to begin the evening is with the outstanding cold mezze which includes a fabulous choice of salads and an impressive assortment of Arabic pickles preserved by the chefs. These are stylishly displayed behind the colourful display of starters. The smoky aubergine Mutabal and Baba Ganoush were especially tasty. Alternatively you can start with the Orzo Pasta soup and a selection of freshly-baked bread.

Moving on to the several hot starters, I especially enjoyed the chicken shawarma, sliced straight from a spit and served between slices of grilled pita bread. Equally delicious is the beef mince koftas which are found on the grill where you can also feast on impressive chicken and beef kebabs.

Main courses are rich and varied, ranging from beef macaroni with a creamy béchamel sauce to Sayadia made from white fish fillets and rice prepared with an array of spices. The Kibeh meatballs in a spiced yogurt sauce are perfect with Vermicelli rice.

The beautifully presented desserts included an array of glorious treats made from full cream milk, such as the Riz bil halib rice pudding with almonds. The Baklava, made from layers of sweet filo filled with chopped nuts and drizzled with sweet syrup was rich and satisfying. Look out for the Oreiyeber (also spelt Ghorayebah) butter cookies that can equal any American version!

For a real flavour of Arabic cuisine at its very best head for the Hyatt.
