Celebrating with Champagne is now even more enjoyable at the Baraza Grill, Café and Bar where bottles are sold at cost price. “The ultimate in decadence will not break your bank balance!” says restaurant manager Denzil McAnda who proudly offers four fabulous choices from the legendary French region of Champagne. “Champagne is made from fermented grapes,” explains the well-informed wine lover, “but unlike still wine it goes through a second fermentation.” Non-vintage (NV) Champagne comes from a formidable blend of 30 to 50 different still wines sourced from villages in Champagne. The Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes are blended in various ratios.
Denzil’s team are happy to serve you a bottle with an ice bucket to toast any celebration but are equally keen for you to enjoy it at the table with a meal. “Champagne has an exciting, fresh dimension when paired with great food,” says Denzil, “so why not enjoy it with a special occasion meal?” He suggests enjoying Champagne with poultry, mild cheese, seafood and an array of desserts.

Laurent Perrier Brut NV – this is the signature wine of the 200-year old Champagne maker that has a citrus aroma, a slight biscuit flavour and dream-like finish. 155,000 Tsh
Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut NV – a well-rounded, balanced Champagne that is easily my favourite of the four. Madame Veuve Clicquot, who took on the wine business after her husband’s death in 1805, had the simple motto: “One quality only, the finest”.
