Great British Bake Off winner David Atherton lends support

The Cavell Nurses’ Trust are thrilled to have support for this year’s Raise Your Whisks bake sale from David Atherton, the winner of the hit television series The Great British Bake Off 2019 and a registered nurse. David, who hopes to whisk up something tasty in the national event, said: “I’m so proud to support Raise Your Whisks and help raise vital funds for Cavell Nurses’ Trust. Join us, bake up a storm, and host your bake this year!” The Trust website presently features the recipe for David’s “My (not Victoria’s!) Sponge Cake.” “The base of this recipe is a classic Victoria sponge,” says David, “You can pimp it up with all kinds of flavours and make it your own!”

Join in and “Bake a Difference”

“Cavell Nurses’ Trust was proud to remain here for nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants throughout 2020,” explains John Orchard, Chief Executive at Cavell Nurses’ Trust, “When the crisis hit the UK you helped us act quickly, creating a new fund to offer rapid support to nursing and midwifery professionals affected by COVID-19.” It was a timely response, from March 2020 until now, the charity has seen a 140% increase in the amount of nursing and midwifery professionals who needed their help compared to the same period the year before. This meant that the Trust had to give out nearly 3 times as much in grant funding to support those in crisis.

“Raise Your Whisks to help raise money to support nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants,” said John Harrison, Fundraising manager at the Cavell Nurses’ Trust, “Every single person taking part will be ‘baking a difference’ and helping to ensure there is free and confidential support available to nursing professionals facing financial hardship.”
