A leading international bi-lateral trade network is inviting professionals around the UK to enjoy a unique evening from the comfort of their own home by joining the South African Chamber of Commerce UK Virtual Gala Dinner on 23rd March 2021.

The South African Chamber of Commerce UK is offering a wine and food extravaganza in partnership with acclaimed chef Owen Sullivan of luxury catering company Noble House in London.

A menu created by Sullivan (formerly Gordon Ramsay’s executive chef at Maze, the Maze Grills, and the Savoy Grill) features three courses for diners to enjoy at home while connecting to the event’s proceedings via Zoom. Dishes are all individually wrapped and sealed. They are delivered chilled and ready to refrigerate until the event. Full instructions will be provided with each delivery so that each diner can finish their meal easily at home.

The wine and food extravaganza will feature contributions from a wine estate owner, maker and dealer. They will speak about the South African wines that are being suggested as pairings with the dishes.

At 1800 (UK time) the occasion will begin with open networking and conversation over a glass of South African sparkling wine or any other tipple of choice. Formalities begin at 1830 with a welcome and opening words from Jacko Maree, Deputy Chairman of Standard Bank Group, Chairman of Liberty Group and Trade Envoy to President Ramaphosa.

The first course is a choice of Smoked Salmon or Poached Leek Terrine. Venison served with grilled shallots, gondant potato, baby seasonal vegetables, plus parsnip and vanilla purée is the main course for meat lovers. Roast Wild Mushroom, Leek and Sage served with roasted mushroom gravy, fondant potato, buttered leeks and Heritage carrots makes up the vegetarian option. For dessert there is a choice of winter berry cheesecake or exotic fruit salad with a pouch of Noble House Premium Ground Coffee to follow.

The guest speaker is Dr Leila Fourie, Group CEO of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, whose career spans more than 20 years working in consulting, investment banking, retail banking & capital markets.

Virtual tables will be created to allow for small group networking over the three courses, each course with a different table of guests and a similar opportunity over after dinner drinks. Formal attire (meaning black tie for gentlemen) is requested. The dinner will be a truly nation-wide occasion with meal deliveries available for the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Friends in South Africa (or elsewhere) may also join via Zoom (for a nominal fee), arrange their own meals and order the wines suggested for the evening. Participants in the UK also have the option of doing the same.

The gathering is the ideal opportunity for anyone interested in the South African Chamber of Commerce to find out about its UK-wide activities. These include a series of virtual events on wide-ranging topics and lively regional chapters – the Isle of Man being the most recent to be launched. The Isle of Man’s government recently announced their membership of the Chamber and others from the thriving South African diaspora on the island are now joining the chapter. Other chapters are also seeing increasing interest in their online networking events open to all who share professional or personal links with South Africa.
